Ashley H. White is an award-winning director, fight & intimacy director, and teaching artist, with fifteen years of professional theatre experience. She brings a unique eye to her work, striving to promote honesty, safety, and excitement in a visually striking, memorable, and powerful way.
With seventeen years of stage combat and movement training, Ashley’s physical performance background plays a major factor in all her work. She has trained extensively in all areas of staged combat, in intimacy for performance, and in dance.
As a director, she has helmed dozens of full-scale productions, in both North Texas and New York City, where she began her career. Ashley’s Fight and Intimacy Direction experience spans more than forty productions across North Texas, receiving recognition and awards for her work.
Ashley is one of only 24 Intimacy Directors certified by Intimacy Directors International. Ashley is the only certified Intimacy Director in North Texas and was the first Intimacy Director to ever be hired by the Tony Award-winning Dallas Theater Center. She is an Advanced Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors, with recommended certifications in every weapon discipline.
She is the founder of SCDallas (est. 2012), North Texas’ only open resource for Stage Combat & Movement Instruction, and acts as the group’s President. SCDallas has over 700 members, is host to an annual Regional Workshop (The Lonestar Smash), and mounts regularly scheduled “Fight Nights” and workshops.
Ashley is the Artistic Director of the award-winning IMPRINT Theatreworks, coined “Dallas’ Hottest New Theatre Company” by Broadway World. IMPRINT garnered major praise for its 2018 Season, including 12 DFW Theater Critics Forum Awards and a staggering 40 column award nominations.
She has been recognized for her work, most recently winning an outstanding direction award from the 2019 DFW Theatre Critics Forum. In 2018, she won three outstanding direction awards as well as a design contribution award for outstanding fight & intimacy direction from the DFW Theater Critics Forum. She also won the 2018 Column Award for Best Director of a Musical – Equity, and was featured on 2018 year-end best lists for TheaterJones, Culture Map, and the Dallas Voice.
